Our Winston-Salem, N.C., campus houses an academic community of almost 9,000 students, with more studying at Wake Forest locations in Charlotte, Washington, D.C., and around the world. Sophomores Destiny Hale and Hanna Shakarov have won the 2025 ACC Debate Championship. Hale, a computer science major, was voted the tournament’s top speaker. Shakarov, a business and enterprise management major, was voted the second overall speaker.
Andy Chan, vice president of Wake Forest’s Office of Personal & Career Development, examines the impact of mentorship in the whirlwind of today’s high-tech, semivirtual world.
Aidan Norris (’25) came to Wake Forest with a passion for engineering and a global perspective shaped by his upbringing. Now he’s graduating with degrees in Engineering and Physics and preparing for his next chapter in Namibia, where he’ll teach math with the Peace Corps.

Celebrating the trees in the Forest! 🌳
For the 14th year, Wake Forest has been named a Tree Campus Higher Education by the Arbor Day Foundation. Students, faculty and staff gathered to plant new trees, measure tree growth and reflect on how caring for our environment is a reflection of #ProHumanitate.

Each year, Wake Forest and the Alumni Council honor alumni whose achievements reflect the University’s values and commitment to service.
We are proud to recognize the 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award recipients, Barbee Oakes (’80, MA ’81) and Syd Kitson (’81).
Barbee Oakes spent her career championing diversity and inclusion, breaking barriers and creating a sense of belonging for generations of students.
Syd Kitson imagined and built America’s first solar-powered town while preserving 73,000 acres of old-growth forest in Florida.
Their work exemplifies the spirit of #ProHumanitate. Congratulations!
